1100 foot boardwalk feature of new Porter Legacy Dunes

A feature of the newly opened Porter Legacy Dunes in South Haven Township is a winding 1,100-foot-long boardwalk that twists through scenic dunes leading visitors to an elevated viewing platform at the top of the sensitive dune complex. The project was designed with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines and conservation of the natural area in mind. The view from the platform offers breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the surrounding shoreline. The accompanying quarter-mile-long trail was designed to protect this rare, backdune habitat and the species that live there.
Establishment of the Porter Legacy Dunes creates a two-mile natural cvorridoe stretching from the Pligrim Haven Natural Area through Van Buren State Park.
The project area is a joint partnership of the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy and South Haven Area Recreation Authority.
