Three weeks after a storm socked St. Joseph County, work continues to clear trees and limbs in Sturgis.
Beginning July 6, city crews will begin an organized brush pickup throughout the city.
Collection will take place in quadrants, roughly in this order:
- North of U.S. 12, east of North Nottawa Street.
- North of U.S. 12, west of North Nottawa.
- South of U.S. 12, east of South Nottawa Street.
- South of U.S. 12, west of South Nottawa.
Residents, especially those in the U.S. 12/east of Nottawa section, should plan to have brush place on the terrace area prior to July 6.
Progress of the collection will be tracked routinely on the city’s website and Facebook page. Officials said it could be a “slow process.”
The city requests to avoid parking in the street near brush piles, to allow more direct access for crew members.
A severe storm hit the community June 11, causing extensive damage to power lines, downing trees, and leaving thousands of residents without power for several days.
