Varsity Boys
The Chambers Academy Varsity Boys’ season came to an end last Tuesday as they hosted the Hooper Academy Colts in a playoff game. Offensively, the Rebels struggled with the Colt press. Defensively, they were outmanned under the goal leaving open layups and failing to get rebounds, and the Rebels fell 34-70.

The Chambers Academy Lady Rebels hosted Pickens Academy on Friday night. Olivia Daughtry got hot under the goal, and then, Makenzie Gilliland hit a three pointer to allow Chambers to hold on to an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a seven point lead in the second quarter, but a change up in the Pickens’ press caused turnovers, and the Lady Pirates took over. Madison Stanford pulled down a three pointer to put Chambers up by one, and the Lady Rebels took the lead 23-22 off a Daughtry bucket under the basket to finish out the half.
Chambers put up sixteen points in the third to extend their lead 39-34, but the Lady Pirates hit back-to-back threes to open up the fourth period of play and came within two points. Stanford knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the lead to four, but Pickens tied it up with less than two minutes to go in the contest. Daughtry once again came through under the basket off a long pass. Then, McKenzie Gilliland put up a two pointer, but Pickens answered with a pair of free throws to once again make it a two point game with less than a minute to go. Chambers broke the press for a Lizzie McManus basket, and the Rebels held on for a 50-46 win.
“I’m just so proud of these girls. Nobody believed in them except for our little circle, and now, we are going to the final four,” exclaimed Coach Jeff Hines after the big win.
Daughtry and Stanford led the Rebels with 17 points each, followed by Gilliland with 9, McManus with 5, and Tyane Anthony with 2.
Chambers will face off against a very good Sparta team on Wednesday at 12:30 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
