LIpovsky named MSHDA Coach of Week

By Genine Hopkins

It’s Hornet Fever in Harrison this week as the 2026 Harrison Hornet Football Homecoming Game draws near, taking place on Friday, September 25, 2026. The game will be preceded by both the Homecoming Parade, that starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs from the Clare County Fairgrounds to the Hornet Football Field, and the Tailgate Party at the Larson Elementary parking area prior to the game, beginning at 5:30 as well.
The game, which begins at 7 p.m., sees the Hornets take on the St. Louis Sharks.
But there is another wonderful celebration this week for the Harrison Hornets! The
Detroit Lions has named Hornet coach Jamie Lipovsky as its Coach of the Week (week #4). Lipovsky – who is a Hornet himself, graduating in 1989 from Harrison High School – has been coaching football at Harrison for 32 years (!!!!), and as Varsity Coach for the past decade! Lipovsky has an impressive 50-41 and that is a 55% win ratio! There’s also a Jack Pine Conference 2 conference win as well. He also led the team to winning 18 of their last 22 games which is phenomenal. Lipovsky still coaches the girls’ varsity softball team and of course, teaches Science in the high school. He does a lot for the community schools and sports his whole life.
“I grew up here in Harrison and after finishing school (college) I wanted to come back home,” Lipovsky told the Lion’s Podcast Head Coach Hangout, “Harrison is a great place to raise your kids and I believe in our school system and sports system here.”
The award comes with $1,000 cash donation for Harrison Hornets’ sports and is sponsored by Carhartt. Should Lipovsky receive the Coach of the Year that would be an additional $3,000 toward Harrison Hornet sports!
So come out and see the Homecoming parade and game this Friday, and if you have time, do a little tail gaiting with your fellow Hornet fans!
