HARRISON — Hayley Neff was a key reason why Harrison’s softball team had a very productive season with a 14-21 record.
She was a senior in her fourth season.
“The first seasons were a little bit of building with ups and downs for sure,” Neff said early in the spring. “I think we have a good chance of winning this year.”
Neff was a pitcher and first baseman for Harrison this season. Her strengths as a pitcher were “putting it down the middle..and a fastball. Compared to last year, I’m a lot better, she said after an early seaxoon win over Chippewa Hills. “I probably had my best game pitching today.’
In a 4-3 loss to the Warriors, she gave up four runs and four hits over five innings, striking out four and walking five.
She had three hits in a 25-14 victory in the second game of the doubleheader against Chippewa Hills.
“The key is focusing on my mechanics and trusting I will be getting it across the plate,” Neff said.
She also was confident in her hitting prospects and said the key for success in that area would be “really focusing and hitting the ball.”
As for team, “it might be a long season but I think we’ll be OK,” Neff said.
She was also with Harrison volleyball, basketball and bowling but indicated softball was her best sport.
