Sen. Debbie Stabenow visits Dairy Phil in Clare for its 70th birthday

The iconic Dairy Phil in Clare had its 70th birthday last Friday, and a former employee and special guest joined in on the celebration.
United States Senator Debbie Stabenow took a visit to Clare and Dairy Phil, allowing her to think back on her time in high school.
At 15 years old, Stabenow began serving the public by scooping treats at Dairy Phil during the summer, as well as working at her father and grandfather’s automobile dealership, Green Auto Sales, for the rest of the year.
The ice cream shop has been able to maintain its 1950s diner style for over 50 years while serving cold treats and other hot meals as well.
The party last Friday included cake, live music and people from the community getting together with friends and having a good time. In an interview with 9&10 News, Sen. Stabenow said that it’s “the sense of community that holds a special place in her heart.”
“They’re deeply involved in the community, supporting community efforts,” she said. “And so I just want to be here to support them and their success. And also to be able to just celebrate growing up in such a wonderful community. The values that I learn from my family, the community working here and really the kind of values that have stuck with me my whole life.”
