Police arrested two teens in separate Jackson incidents after officers said they found the teens with guns, including one pistol recovered after reports of gunfire Saturday and a stolen pistol found during a traffic stop Tuesday.
The first arrest happened early Saturday after officers heard gunfire near Mitchell and Everhard streets and found shell casings in the area, police said.
Officer Schram and K9 Taz tracked the area and found two teens hiding in a wooded area. Police said one teen had a pistol hidden in his waistband and was arrested on weapons-related offenses, including carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm. Narcotics-related charges also were filed, police said. The other teen was identified and released to his parents after officers determined he did not have a weapon.
The second arrest happened Tuesday during a traffic stop at Cooper Street and Morrell Street. Police said Officer Tierney stopped a vehicle and, during the investigation, asked the 19-year-old driver to get out. The driver told Tierney he had a pistol in his waistband, police said.
The 19-year-old did not have a concealed pistol license, and police said the pistol was later determined to be stolen. He also was found with marijuana, police said. The teen was arrested on allegations of being a minor in possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon and was lodged at the jail. A 20-year-old passenger in the vehicle also was served with a personal protection order.
