12-year-old caught in Clare County with dad’s Blazer

Charges are pending against a 12-year-old Grant Traverse County youngster, who “took” his father’s mid-sized Blazer, and was apprehended with a gun, ammo and some marijuana early Sunday, July 12th.
According to a release from Clare County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Aaron Miller, Central Dispatch got a call from the Grant Traverse County Sheriff’s Office asking officers to “be on the look-out for a red 2000 Chevrolet Blazer that was taken by the owner’s son.”
Deputies were able to locate the vehicle on southbound US-127 near westbound US-10 in Grant Township and make a traffic stop on the “stolen” vehicle, apprehending the youngster who was alone in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led deputies to the discovery of a 12-gauge pump shotgun with “numerous” rounds of ammunition and a “small amount of marijuana.
The 12-year-old driver was taken to the Clare County Sheriff’s Office and held there until his parents arrived to pick him up.
A report on the incident, “requesting charges for use of a motor vehicle with out authority, but without the intent to steal (joy-riding), operating a motor vehicle without a license, carrying a concealed weapon and as a minor in possession of marijuana” was sent to the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office.
