80-year-old admits to trafficking drugs

ALMENA – Charges are pending for an 80-year-old Paw Paw man who was allegedly trafficking narcotics from his Almena Township residence, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics detectives executed a search warrant in Almena Township after making several purchases of methamphetamine from the suspect.
On Nov. 27, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the narcotics unit executed the search warrant and found the man inside his garage. His wife was located inside the house but is not considered a suspect at this time. During the search of the garage, a small amount of methamphetamine was located along with smoking devices and scales. Through an interview with the male suspect, detectives were advised that a large quantity of methamphetamine was still inside the basement of the house. The suspect directed detectives to the basement where they located 1.6 pounds of methamphetamine. The suspect admitted to trafficking narcotics. When completed, a report will be sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for charges. Several guns were also located inside the residence.
