Allegan shakes off slow start to beat Fennville

When the Allegan boys basketball team hosted Fennville on Friday, Jan. 10, in marked the first game action for the Tigers in three weeks due to Christmas break.
And Allegan showed a little rust early, scoring just six points in the first quarter.
“After having 21 days between competition, we definitely started out super sluggish,” Allegan coach Quentin Edwards said.
The second quarter was a different story.
The Tigers reeled off 21 points in the second stanza to take control in what was ultimately a 56-39 win over the Blackhawks.
The win moved Allegan to 6-3, including a 4-0 showing at home.
“We love playing at home in front of the home crowd,” Edwards said. “The atmosphere is amazing with the band and all the fans. We always want to put on a show and I think we did that tonight.”
The night was also special in that it was MVE—or Most Valuable Educator—Night, during which each player honored a school staff member who has made an impact on the.
“It was a great night for our guys,” Edwards said.
Quentin Edwards Jr. led the charge for Allegan, scoring a game-high 19 points, including eight points in the second quarter. He also had five rebounds.
Jeremiah Edwards-Tate added 10 points, with Ayden Fusko and Liam Antoine going for six points each. Fusko pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
“We’re getting into the tough leg of the schedule,” Coach Edwards said. “So, it’s good being back in the saddle.”
