STURGIS—The Allegan girls swim & dive team wrapped up its regular season with a hard-fought 94-91 win over Sturgis on Tuesday, Oct. 22, securing a perfect 7-0 record in the SCC conference.
“Our undefeated season has been a testament to the girls’ consistency, teamwork and determination,” Allegan coach Carol Gephart said.
Lilli Kelley led the way for Allegan with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, while Bailee Dilley won diving and Mari Nistal Palacios secured the victory in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Maddie Antkoviak, Nistal Palacios, Grace Kelley, and Lizzy Ehrich also took first in a tightly contested race.
Runner-up performances played a crucial role in the Tigers’ win. Those runner-up finishes included: Antkoviak in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Grace Kelley in the 500 freestyle; Nistal Palacios in the 200 IM; Eliza DeLaet in the 50 freestyle; Bella Festerling in the 100 freestyle; and Callie Borst diving.
The 200 medley relay team of Lilli Kelley, Ehrich, DeLaet and Bella Festerling, along with the 400 freestyle relay team of Antkoviak, DeLaet, Lilli Kelley and Festerling, also secured second-place finishes.
“It’s been an incredible season, and it’s been a total team effort,” Gephart said. “The girls have worked hard and supported each other all the way. Now we’re looking forward to the conference championships.”
The Tigers will next compete at the SCC Conference Championship at Otsego High School Nov. 8 and 9.
