On Dec. 30, shortly before noon, the Paw Paw Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Almena Township on County Road 653. Paw Paw Fire Chief Kyle Richardson said the fire began in the attached garage, then quickly began to spread into the home. Richardson said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage and attic. Paw Paw firefighters were assisted by Lawton and Mattawan fire departments, Paw Paw Quick Response Team and Van Buren Emergency Medical Services. Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately two hours. The cause of the fire is undetermined, according to Richardson.
