High school football players and coaches from Allegan County joined their counterparts across the state in preparing for the upcoming season on Monday, Aug. 11.
That was the first day official practice was allowed by the Michigan High School Athletic Association, with the first several days dedicated to conditioning. Pads will be allowed later in the week.
The season kicks off for seven of the nine county teams on Thursday, Aug. 28, with three of those teams hosting games.
Fennville is at home against Lawrence, Martin is at home against Mendon and Saugatuck is home against Buchanan.
Hamilton (at St, Johns), Hopkins (at Fremont), Otsego (at Battle Creek Pennfield) and Wayland (at Lansing Waverly) will open on the road.
The other two county teams—Allegan and Plainwell—will renew acquaintances on Friday, Aug. 29, as the Trojans host the Tigers.
This will be the first gridiron meeting between those teams since 2020, which was Allegan’s final year in the Wolverine Conference before making the move to the SAC.
All games from Week 1 are slated for 7 p.m. kickoff times, as is the case throughout the season.
