SOUTH HAVEN – Perspective: Middle and High School Art Exhibition will celebrate with an opening reception at the South Haven Center for the Arts on Friday, April 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. Artists, teachers, family, friends, and community members all invited to celebrate the success of these students’ artists. The artwork, including sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting, collage, fiber arts, and digital art, will be judged, and winners will be announced at the reception.
The work of middle school and high school students (grades sixth through 12th) will be exhibited at the Center for the Arts, 600 Phoenix St. South Haven, from April 4 through May 2. This exhibition is made possible due to the work of art teachers Colleen Anastacio at Baseline Middle School, Madeline Finn teaching in South Haven High School, Kelsey Vollrath at Covert Public Schools, Jennifer Nesbitt and Angela Rueff at Bangor Public Schools, Julie Stegman at St. Paul Lutheran School, Sarah Bentley at Paw Paw High School, Tamara Schoonbeck at Decatur Schools, Kelly Vander Kley and Tracy Wendt at Van Buren Tech.
“This is a great opportunity for the students to showcase their talent. This is my favorite show, actually!” said South Haven Center for the Art’s Board President Genie Crotte. These student exhibitions have been a key program of the Center’s mission for over 30 years.
High school student artwork will be exhibited from South Haven, Covert, and Bangor High Schools and Van Buren Tech Center. Middle School artists’ work will be exhibited from St. Paul’s, South Haven, Baseline, Bangor, and Covert Middle Schools. Additionally, Paw Paw High School and Decatur Schools will join the exhibition for the first time. Area homeschooled students also are participating in the exhibition. The Center for the Arts will have drop-in activities during the run of the exhibition for families including Van Buren Youth Initiative Classes for Middle and High school aged artists, with more details posted on the events calendar at: southhavenart.org
Perspective is sponsored by South Haven Public Schools and made possible in part through funding from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Edward Jones Office of Paul Hix.
