Mya Nicole Barron, the 15-year-old former AHS student who is facing weapons charges after allegedly threatening to attack Allegan High School in September, was in 57th District Court today for a PCC.
Judge Christopher Burnett conducted the hearing which determined whether the charges have probable cause and were likely caused by the accused defendant.
However, Barron’s attorney, Public Defender Chad Catalino, requested an Adjournment.
Prosecutor Michael Villar’s office did not object.
Judge Burnett ordered the PCC adjourned until October 30 at 1 pm, with a Preliminary Exam also scheduled for November 4 at 9 am. According to the court clerk’s office, the defendant will be there in person for the PE.
Barron was given a cash surety bond of $75,000, which has not been posted, also according to the clerk’s office. However, it remains unclear if she is in custody in the Allegan County Jail; a quick search of their inmate database comes up with ‘no records.’
Charges against Barron include filing a false report, threat of terrorism, stealing a firearm, felony firearm, and safe-breaking. The charges stem from disturbing online conversations and postings made by Barron that explicitly outlined a plan to attack her former high school with her dad’s van, ‘a f**k ton of fireworks’, and gasoline; and to shoot up the school with her mom’s Glock handgun (that she stole).
The plot was foiled on Sept. 19 by a coordinated effort between the Detroit field office of the FBI, and local Allegan Police.
