The rivalry game between the boys soccer teams from Saugatuck and Fennville on Monday, Sept. 16, was a nail-biter that was dominated by defense
In the end, it was the Blackhawks who prevailed by a 2-1 final score.
“The match didn’t disappoint,” Saugatuck coach Neal Phillips said. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t do quite enough.”
The game was deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime. Saugatuck’s goal game courtesy of Dante Holley off an assist from Miseal Gamboa, while Jared Delgado provided the Fennville goal.
Angel Villalobos accounted for the game-winner for the Blackhawks in the second half.
Chava Carranza was credited with an assist in the win, while Jose Sanchez finished with three saves for the win.
Phillips praised the play of center-backs Nik Vinten-Johansen and Holden Burd for Saugatuck.
“Both of those guys played stellar games,” Phillips said.
