At its Jan. 13 meeting, Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education approved appointments for president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Emily Halling, Lynn Brand and Gwen Donmyer retained their seats for president, VP and secretary, respectively. Ben Myers was selected as treasurer role, previously held by Kerri Millett, who retired in December after serving on the board for more than two decades. She had been treasurer for an extended stretch of her tenure.
Justin Kellermeier assumed Millett’s seat, alongside fellow trustees Michelle Baker and Betsie Drumm.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the hiring of educators Khanya Sigwela and Steven Crone.
Sigwela will teach business at Sturgis High School. She has a Bachelor of Education in economic and management science from University of Pretoria, and was a classroom teacher for business studies, English, natural science and technology in South Africa.
Crone is aquatic director at Community Pool. He is an alumnus of Sturgis High School and has a Bachelor of Science in economics from Arizona State University. Crone also was a swim instructor, assistant manager and general manager at AquaSafe Swim School in Arizona, 2012-2024.
In December, Bryana Palomino was approved by the board to teach English Learners (EL) at Congress School and Wenzel School.
