Acting on a late addition to the Board of Commissioners (BOC) agenda at last Thursday’s nighttime annual meeting, former commissioner James Storey said the body approved
an agreement with Beckering Construction to manage the improvements to the county’s
medical care facility on the Dumont Lake campus.
“The staff of Allegan County Medical Care Community has been working through Master Planning over the last several years towards improving the physical plant to position it for future generations of care,” Storey wrote in his weekly newsletter. “The medical care
facility staff has been working with architecture/engineering firm Eckert Wordell for
approximately one year to convert the former Rehabilitation Center and Hillcrest East Hall into an Assisted Living Community, update and renovate the skilled nursing and adult day portions of the facility by providing improved, roof heating, ventilation and air condition systems, plumbing and boiler upgrades, improved electrical systems and energy efficient lighting, and renovated décor with updated wall, floor, window coverings, kitchens, bathrooms, and office spaces.
“Plans are to add a Café to the front lobby to provide a location for residents, visitors,
staff, and County partners to enjoy a coffee, meal, or snack. Beckering has worked on other
Allegan County construction projects, such as the recent Allegan County Courthouse renovation project. No cost of the Beckering agreement was listed in the BOC resolution approving the company’s retention by the county.
