Butler sets new auction record price for sheep in Youth Fair’s livestock auction

HARTFORD – A new auction price for sheep was set at this year’s Van Buren Youth Fair Large Livestock Auction. Anya Butler shattered the record with the sale of her 130-pound ewe lamb when she received $60 per pound from Derek Lietzau Farm Bureau Insurance Group, Paw Paw.
Previous record high prices were set by Hollee Kubiszak in 2015, with a price of $37 per pound. In 2022, Molly Kubiszak broke the record with a $38.50 per pound sale.
Lietzau also purchased several additional animals from others at the 2024 Van Buren Youth Fair Large Livestock Auction, including Butler’s reserve champion market steer for $6.85 per pound, as well as her market weather for $7 per pound.
Lietzau has been a supporter of Butler for many years.
Butler, 18, a 2024 high school graduate, said this is her last year of exhibiting animals at the Van Buren Youth Fair as she plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall to pursue a degree in animal science.
