Casey Davis appointed as Van Buren County Undersheriff

PAW PAW – The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday, Dec. 9, that Lt. Casey Davis has been appointed as undersheriff at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Undersheriff Casey Davis brings a wealth of experience to this position, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Undersheriff Davis began his career at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office in April 2008, where he worked as a Road Patrol deputy until being assigned to the Narcotics Division in Febru-ary 2011. During his time in Narcotics, he worked as an undercover detective gaining new skills and experience. In January 2017, Undersheriff Davis was promoted to Road Patrol sergeant, where he was a supervisor, until February 2019 where he was promoted again, to the position of Narcot-ics lieutenant, overseeing the Narcotics Division as well as the SWAT Team. Undersheriff Davis is currently a firearms instructor and is certified in disposal of clandestine (methamphetamine) labs.
Undersheriff Davis received his associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Community Col-lege in Criminal Justice, where he also attended and graduated from the Police Academy. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2022 from Southern New Hampshire University with honors.
Undersheriff Davis received a lifesaving award, when in May 2017, while off duty, he saved the life of a fellow off-duty Grand Rapids Police Officer who had stopped breathing and lost con-sciousness when he suffered a heart attack. Undersheriff Davis gave quick assessment and pro-vided life saving measures, where he was revived prior to paramedics arriving on scene. Under-sheriff Davis also received an award in 2010 for interrupting a breaking and entering at the Ports of Call, a Mattawan area convenience store, where he apprehended two suspects while inside the building.
Undersheriff Davis and his wife share seven children and three grandchildren and reside in the Mattawan area.
He enjoys watching his sons play hockey and lacrosse. He also enjoys donating his time away from the office to youth sports and has been a coach since 2012.
Undersheriff Davis has been part of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office for 16 years and looks forward to continuing his career in his new position. Undersheriff Davis is excited and en-thusiastic about working with Sheriff Daniel Abbott in his new role, according to the press release.
The previous undersheriff was placed on administrative leave in July following an investi-gation concerning Brady/Giglio matters. After the matter was reviewed with the Prosecuting At-torney’s Office, his employment with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office was severed.
