The Marion Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 11, and the topic on everyone’s mind was the August Marion Old Fashioned Days rapidly approaching! From the Treasurer Sherry Jackson’s report of what was in the coffers after the last deposit – $11,486.31 – to Vendor organizer Liz Maddox’s report of having $400 in vendor fees so far, it was a long and successful meeting. Most important is the June 20, 2024 deadline for sponsorship for this year’s event. While sponsors can sign up after that date, there will not be time to include them listed as sponsors on the flyers, programs, or t-shirts.
Chamber President Nicole Ashby-Johnson reported, with regret, that she was unable to arrive at a mutual time for this year’s OFD and a proposed Battle of the Bands, suggested by local musician C.C. Singer, a former DJ for 98.5 UPS. Ashby-Johnson will be in contact with Singer for the 2025 OFD lineup and day and time to make sure it happens next year.
Sponsors this year include Classic Chevrolet, Olde Mill, McBain Grain, Mike’s Body Shop, Timber Rose, Pleasant Ridge, Untamed, Flemming’s, Corner Concrete, Country Boyz, and Maddox Rentals. The Chamber hopes to add some more before the deadline.
Button pre-sales will begin on July 19, and buttons will be at Flemings, Untamed, Flashback, and the Village office. Fireworks, that were approved at the last Marion Village meeting, are set with Jeff’s Fireworks out of Cadillac, and a down payment of half will be made. Tim Mitchell’s band – The Middle Branch Revival – will provide music on both Friday on the patio and on Saturday at the fairgrounds.
Readers will be updated the closer the date of the MOFD gets and another meeting is planned for Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 6 p.m., at the library.
