Chambers boys, girls get runners-up in holiday tournament

JV Girls
Against Trinity, Peyton Earl knocked down a basket to get the Lady Rebels on the board. She followed with a steal and pass to Emmalee Jackson for another two. Blakely Allen added back-to-back baskets. Klancy Phillips added a couple of points under the goal, and the JV Lady Rebels led 12-0 to end the first.The defense continued to steal the ball and force turnovers keeping the Eagles scoreless going into the half. Peyton Stanford started off the second half with a layup. Phillips hit a basket to end the third up 25-0. Stanford closed out with two more baskets to make the final score 31-1.
JV Boys
Trey Tigner pulled back-to-back threes to open the game with a close 9-6 score at the end of the first against Trinity. Tigner started off the second period of play with another three to take a 17-13 lead into the half. The Rebels went on a six point unanswered run in the third. Tounchie Taylor knocked down two free throws and a layup to put the Rebels up 29-14 to end the third quarter. Brewer Smith hit a buzzer beater to make the final score 32-18.
Varsity Girls
At the holiday tournament, Chambers faced Trinity in the first round. The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 10 point lead off of a Samantha Lovelace three as Olivia Daughtrey dominated under the goal, and Chambers led 17-5 at the end of the first. Anna Kate Jackson started the second off with a steal and score. The Lady Rebels went to a half court press defense and put up 16 unanswered points to make the score 33-5 at the half. Daughtrey continued to control the boards in both rebounds and goals under the basket. The Lady Rebels capitalized on free throws and continued to play outstanding defense only giving up five points to extend the lead 46-10. Autumn Blackall knocked down a basket to make the score an even 50. Chambers continued to pass the ball well pulling out the win 57-12.
In the championship game, the Lady Rebels trailed 33-16 at the half. The Lady Rebels had trouble getting the ball to fall in the third until Tyane Anthony knocked down a three and ended the quarter 25-47. The Lady Rebels continued to struggle and dropped the game 60-28.
On Saturday, Chambers once again hosted Trinity. Emmie McManus hit two free throws to get the scoring started for the Lady Rebels. Chambers then went cold until Madison Stanford knocked down a three with less than a minute to play in the first, and Chambers ended the quarter up 7-0. Stanford found Olivia Daughtrry under the goal for a basket. Tyane Anthony hit three shots to extend the Lady Rebels’ lead 16-0 at the end of the half. Emmie McManus got hit in the third under the goal on the way to the Lady Rebels’ victory.
Varsity Boys
In a back-and-forth first quarter in the tournament, Chambers and Trinity traded baskets with Gabe Bridges driving to the goal to take the lead 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. Trinity then went on a charge taking the lead 20-12 at the half. The Rebels came back after half time holding Trinity to a single point while Bridges, Trey Tigner, and Jake Reames all put up points in the third to tie the game at 21 all going into the fourth. The Rebels then sealed the win in the final period of play with Hunter Andrews scoring 9 points to lead Chambers to a 37-28 win
In the championship game, Springwood went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter until Hunter Andrews put the Rebels on the board knocking down a three to end the period down 3-11. Jake Reames and Bryce Modling got some shots to fall in the second, but Springwood continued to knock down threes. Chambers shut down the inside but trailed 15-33 at the end of the half. Springwood proved to be too much for Chambers in the second half, and the Rebels fell 32-61.
The Rebels faced off against Trinity again on Saturday but didn’t fare as well falling 30-40.
