ALLEGAN – The Board of Commissioners at its August 11 meeting, chairman Jim Storey said, approved matching allocations from the three townships’ American Rescue Plan (ARPA) dollars for the expansion of broadband/high speed internet access.
“Cheshire dedicated $216,874 while Trowbridge allocated $62,000 to the project,” Storey said. “Those amounts will be matched with a like amount from the county’s ARPA funds. Bloomingdale Communications will use the funds together with its own capital and other federal grants and loans to expand service to the three rural communities.
“When completed, it is expected Cheshire will be covered with access points for high speed internet. This is the second rural township for which the county has matched broadband ARPA allocations. Earlier Lee Township was approved for a $400,000 match.”
Storey also announced the boat ramp at the Gun Lake County Park has been in solid use since it was replaced earlier this year.
“It is the second of two improvements to the park over the past three years, following the replacement of the park’s shelter,” he wrote in his weekly newsletter. “Future improvements to county parks include replacing the access stairs/ramp to the beach at West Side Park that was damaged during the high water of the latter part of the last decade.”
