Residents and business owners around Allegan gathered at the Allegan City Hall to examine a variety of pictures and renderings of Downtown Allegan. Each photo asked questions regarding what residents felt would improve that section of the city. Envisioning addressed anything from developing empty storefronts to increasing the city’s activities.
As the sticky notes increased, so did the conversations and the expanding on suggestions. The ideas solicited from those in attendance will be utilized as the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), City Council, and staff as they begin designing the Strategic Plan that will take the city into 2030.
To assist in extending ideas and discussion, the staff displayed the pictures and sticky notes from a similar activity five years ago. Participants could analyze the previous suggestions and compare them to what had been accomplished since the 2020-2025 Strategic Plan was written.
“We were very pleased with the turnout and input shared during the Downtown Allegan Master Plan Open House held last week,” stated Assistant City Manager Parker Johnson. “The insight from business owners, downtown residents, and members of the general Allegan public will help direct the DDA board in their decision-making and goals setting for the new Master Plan.”
For those who were unable to attend the Open House on Thursday, November 13, 2025, a review of the ideas can be made by contacting the assistant fcity management or a member of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
