Clare boy runners take second place

CLARE — Clare’s cross country boys team was second and the girls were fifth in the Northern Michigan Meet of Champions at Cadillac on Saturday.
Alpena won the Division 1 and 2 boys race at 41, while Clare was second at 65 followed by Gladwin 75, Shepherd 78, Gaylord 79, Cadillac 162.
For the girls, it was Shepherd at 18, Gladwin 60, Alpena 60, Cadillac 100 and Clare 123.
For the Clare boys, Connor Schmidt was seventh (17:34.6), Christian Villa-Bulton 11th (17:45.6), Clayton Peacock 14th (17:59.8), Sutton Klaus 15th (18:03.4), Cullen Gallagher 18th (18:31.9), William Werner 22nd (18:44.9), Kona Crump 25th (19:15.9); Greg Steele 31st (19:54.9), Cole Grundy 39th (20:26.0), Ian Letherer 47th (21:16.4) Matthew Rodgers 57th (22:00.7) and Carter Chapman 59th (22:06.1).
For the Clare girls, Ava Robinson was 16th (22:18.6), Leah Lewis 26th (23:29.20), Reagan Somers (23.38.3), Olivia Dubay was 49th (37:35.2), and Kaula Villa-Bilton 50th (42:01.3).
Clare will be competing on Saturday with hopes of qualifying for the state finals on Nov. 1 at the Michigan International Speedway.
