Clare golfer ties for sixth at state

CLARE — Bryce Wieferich competed in the MHSAA D3 Golf Finals at the Meadows at Grand Valley State University on June 6-7.
On Friday, Wieferich had a 75, placing him in eighth in the field of 108 golfers.
Wieferich shot 78 to finish 14th on the day.
“Bryce’s two-day total of 153 earned him a tie for sixth place overall,” coach Chris Fedewa said.
“Bryce did a very good job at managing the course on both days. His shot placement was exceptional. Bryce had an outstanding tournament and I look forward to what he’s going to be in the future.”
Wieferich was an individual qualifier for the Pioneers to the state finals. Christopher Crockett of Shepherd, had rounds of 70 and 75 to finish at 148 and be the Division 3 medalist with a 145.
Jackson Lumen Christi was the team state champion with rounds of 310 and 316 for a 626. Traverse City St. Francis had rounds of 315 and 324 for 639 to take second. Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian had rounds of 320 and 325 for 645 and third place. Essexville Garber had rounds of 340 and 312 to finish at 652 for fourth place.
