CLARE — Ethan Reeves likes what he was able to accomplish for Clare’s boys outdoor track season in 2025.
He was a senior and Reeves had another strong season in the pole vault.
His best performance was 14 feet, 6.75 inches in the Clare last chance meet for first place. Reeves also had an impressive first place of 13 feet, 6 inches at the Doug Steward Memorial Invitational at St. Louis.
He also had an impressive performance at the Jack Pine Conference championship meet in Pinconning for second place. Reeves won the regional at 13-8 and was 14th in the state finals at 12-10.
“It’s been going great,” he said prior to the state finals. “I wound up getting the school record in the vault (14-6.75). It just came. Nothing really in my mind was showing me that, hey, you’re going to break a school record today. We normally go up poles a lot so our pole progression was pretty good.
“I was getting to the height in the pole and was getting upside down pretty well. I got 14-6.75 on my first jump. It was pretty exciting.”
Reeves was seeded second in the pole vault at the state meet. Clare went from Division 3 to Division 2 this season.
Reeves was a pole vaulter for two years. He asked his coach to try it.
“He said don’t get hurt,” Reeves said.
He also played football for Clare.
