CLARE — it was a season Clare runners wont soon forget.
Laura Leis, a sophomore, was 113th at the Division 3 state finals in 20 minutes 57.1 seconds.
“There are many parts of cross country that I like,” Leis said. “I like the sense of accomplishment running gives me. I like how running has taught me that if you want something you have to work for it. But most importantly, I love my team. This group of girls is absolutely amazing! They always make me laugh, and we have made so many memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Olivia Forsberg a junior, was 159th at the state meet.
This is my second year due to having a knee surgery causing me to not be able to run my sophomore year,” Forsberg said. “From a year ago I have improved drastically because last year I was barely able to run due to having ACL reconstruction surgery.
“My top moment was definitely regionals where I ran a breakout race finishing over a minute faster than I had all season. I moved up throughout the race and ended up finishing 15th qualifying me individually for states. Another top moment for me is being able to go to states and doing well this season after coming from a major surgery.”
Emma Stotzel was a freshman who finished 166th in 21:44.4 at the state meet.
“I have been on varsity for one year because this is my freshman year,” Stozel said. “My best race was at regionals where I had a PR by over a minute. My team is my favorite people to hang out with as they are like family to me. And I also plan on doing track.”
