BIG RAPIDS — Clare (17-15-2) extended its season by at least one more match on Wednesday.
The Pioneers advanced to Thursday’s title match against Reed City with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 win over the Warriors (5-20) at Big Rapids.
The Warriors were battling with serve receive the first two sets. Clare’s Marlee Clark got the hot saving touch with some aces and five straight points for a 14-5 lead in the third set. Macyn Cornell had a tip to keep the Warriors alive. Hunter Howard had a service point for the Warriors who trailed 16-8. Tessa Kelly’s kill gave Clare a 19-10 lead. Addison McMillan had two aces for a 23-10 lead and the Pioneers were able to get the winning two points.
“It was a good way to start with in the semifinals. The girls went for every point, one point at a time, They worked very hard and it worked out good,”Clare coach Shannon Taylor said.
Taylor was impressed with Clark’s serving performance.
“Marlee had a good run with her serving,” Taylor said. “We moved the ball around quite a bit and they all worked pretty hard tonight.”
Harrison volleyball
HARRISON — Harrison’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to Beal City at Farwell on Wednesday in district semifinal action.
Harrison opened the district on Nov. 4 with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-19 win over Sanford Meridian.
Farwell, the host team, lost on Nov. 4 to Pinconning 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22.
