The Clare wrestling team opened up the Jack Pine Conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday, at Gladwin. The Pioneers were able to pick up two wins, taking down Farwell 78-0 and Gladwin 47-32.
Clare has a 12-3 overall team record this year to go along with their 2-0 start to JPC action.
“So far we have had a good start to the season,” head coach Dennsi Doyle said. “Last weekend we attended the St Louis Individual Tournament and as a team won that tournament with 11 of 14 wrestlers placing. We had two champions that day with Carter Smedley at 130 pounds and Bryson Hernandez at 119 pounds. Their records are 18 – 3 and 20 – 0 respectively. I’m very happy with the progress of our team and how hard they have all worked. We are seeing steady growth from everyone, which is very exciting.”
Clare hosts Ogemaw Heights and Hemlock tonight (Friday).
“This will be our Teacher Appreciation Night so all of our wrestlers invited a teacher that has impacted their life in a positive way,” Doyle said. “I’m hoping with it being a Friday night, that we get a big turn out from the community and the students.”
