MARION – Tracey Cochran has been appointed the new clerk for Osceola County.
County commissioner Roger Elkins of Evart confirmed the appointment which was made by the two circuit court judges.
Cochran has been the deputy clerk. She will serve out the remainder of retiring clerk Karen Bluhm’s unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2024.
At their meeting earlier this week. commissioners approved accepting the donation of $1,500 from Cargill to be ear marked for E-Citations.
The board voted to keep the courthouse open on Juneteenth.
“The courts won’t be open but the feeling was we should keep the courthouse open.” Elkins said.
The board voted to restart the county picnic.
“That’s something we had annually done but during the last two years of COVID we have not had the county picnic,” Elkins said. “We have it at the courthouse.”
Commissioners at the committee of the whole voted 4-3 to approve the Jail purchasing a minivan from Enterprise with funds coming from the commissary fund. Elkins said one of the commissioners left prior to the board meeting and the vote was 3-3. This means the proposal was rejected.
Commissioners recognized judge Scott Hill-Kennedy and clerk Karen Bluhm who are retiring this month. Hill-Kennedy’s replacement has not been named by the governor’s office.
