A 12-year-old was injured Tuesday in a Michigan State Police Standoff that began Monday and lasted 16 hours with gunfire between a suspect and police officers at the man’s home near Coleman.
Troopers dispatched to the scene reported that a man exited the home and shot at them. Troopers returned fire and the man went back inside.
The 12-year-old, a girl, that was inside the home was injured and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was reportedly stable on Tuesday. Including the youngster, there were four people, all residents, in the home at the time.
One State Trooper was treated for injuries due to the extreme cold weather.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, eventually surrendered and was taken into custody around 4 pm Tuesday afternoon. It started after a caller reported “shots fired” around 11:55 pm Monday evening.
The incident took place in the 1100 block of North East Isabella County Line Road, north of Coleman and just south of Herrick Road.
The Third District Special Investigation Section was called in. State Police negotiators, aviation, bomb squad members and an emergency support team were also at the scene.
