For the second year in a row, We Care Community Resource Center is bringing in a comedian to headline a fundraiser. But in addition to comedy, the event on Friday, April 11, 2025 will also feature an art auction.
“We did a fundraiser last year with a comedian,” says Erika Morrison, Executive Director of We Care I.N.C., Erika Morrison. “It was fun and it sold out. So, we are encouraging people to get their tickets early this year. We only have room for 150 people because of the tables and the space.”
Morrison said that this year they are also holding an art auction where We Care clients as well as professional artists in the community are providing art. She added that having an art auction is unique for them. “This is something we have never done before, and as far as I know, no one else has an art auction, with the exception of the South Haven Center for the Arts,” Morrison says.
We Care is a faith-based non-profit organization that serves everyone in the area who might need a helping hand. The organization that’s been around for more than 40 years provides over 25 programs and ministries through local churches, agencies and other organizations to assist people by meeting their needs. Morrison said their goal is to raise $20,000 which will go towards serving clients through casework services, their food and personal care pantries and direct help to struggling families.
Jerry Donovan, the headline act, is a multi-faceted stand-up comedian with the ability to deliver a hilarious show for a wide range of audiences. His non-stop, rapid delivery draws on material from a lifetime of experiences. Having headlined comedy clubs throughout America and performed many fundraisers and benefits, each show is unique and one-of-a-kind experience and is revealed in the research done to tailor to make an event special in its own right.
The opening act will feature stand-up comedian Carl Sobel. His storytelling and misadventures have been highlighted at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle, Dr. Grins, and Laughfest.
The event will be held in the upper level of the Michigan Maritime Museum, 260 Dyckman Ave, South Haven. Tickets for the show, which includes dinner and drinks as well as the art auction, are $100 and are available at We Care at 1301 M-43 Hwy. Suite 2B, South Haven, or by calling at 269-637-4342, or going to their website at events@wecare-inc.org.
