Community rallies to support young leukemia victim

By Pamela Holloway

Last week a post was noticed on Facebook in reference to a student at Eastside Elementary School name Alaina.

Eastside and JP Powell school will be wearing orange in honor of Alaina White. Alaina is an 8 year old 3rd grader at Eastside Elementary School
.
In August 2021 she was diagnosed with Acute B-Cell Leukemia. She has not been able to attend school traditionally, but she works hard and does really well on her school work at home! “We want to show her that we all support her, and that we are proud of her for being a fighter! #Alainastrong”

Supporters have asked LaFayette and Chambers County to come together and paint parts of cities, schools , the Internet, churches, etc. ORANGE in honor of showing love, prayers, encouraging gifts and support to Alaina.

Alaina White is the STRONG 8 year old daughter
of Shontavaous and Kevin White. She has to
travel to and from Birmingham every 7-10 days
for treatments.

Eastside supported Alaina by encouraging students and staff to wear a turban one day last week. In January of 2022, she lost her hair due to chemo treatments, but Alaina totally embraced it. So, the community wore turbans with Alaina to show her she’s not fighting alone.

Due to Alaina having to stay at home, supporters are trying to make her
experience as comfortable as possible. She loves
pajamas, fuzzy socks, warm/soft blankets,
turbans of all colors, pullovers/hoodies, and
jogging suits. Her favorite foods are crab legs, hot
wings, top chick chicken tenders, chicken
noodles, hot chips, pickles, and water. Her
favorite color is teal/turquoise blue.
