GENEVA TWP. – A 30-year-old South Haven area felon faces a charge of resisting and obstructing, following his arrest Thursday, Sept. 26, in Geneva Township, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff Office. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that detectives with the Van Buren County Narcotics unit were doing surveillance on a known drug house near Geneva Township.
During surveillance at County Road 687 and County Road 388 at approximately 6:45 p.m., detectives observed a wanted fugitive leave the house on a bicycle. Detectives knew that the male subject had multiple felony warrants for his arrest, including assaulting a police officer. Detectives followed the wanted subject who was identified as Jimmy Capio, 30, from the South Haven area.
Detectives advised Capio to stop and to get off the bike because he was under arrest. Capio started to pedal faster, trying to avoid being arrested. Detectives pulled past Capio and advised him to stop and when he didn’t, detectives had to chase Capio on the bike and tackle him off the bike. Capio at this time was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
Sheriff Abbott said one detective sustained a minor shoulder injury during this incident.
