GRAND RAPIDS — Three Rivers’ boys’ cross country team finished as runner up in Friday night’s Under The Lights meet at Grand Rapids South Christian, while the girls’ cross country team finished eighth out of 24 teams.
For the boys, 11 runners set lifetime personal bests. The ‘Cats were led by senior Sullivan Zietlow (3rd, 15:52, PR). He was followed in the varsity top five by Junior Charlie Brauer (17th, 17:13, PR), junior Jonah Zietlow (20th, 17:18), junior Reece Howes (12th, 17:36) and freshman David Kore (34th, 17:43, PR). The top seven were rounded out by junior Trey Hall (58th, 18:31), and junior Dontrel Taylor (63rd, 18:46, PR).
Adrian Perez (19:27), Tony Hilton (20:00), Max Wolgast (20:04), Larry Watson (21:24), Cooper Goff (22:12), Noah Ranson (22:23), Mason Wolfe (24:43) also set personal bests.
The girls’ team had six runners set lifetime personal bests. The team was led by sophomore Lillie Kerr (23rd, 21:59). She was followed in the varsity top five by sophomore Brynn Copenhaver (25th, 22:02, PR), senior Sarela Cruz (52nd, 22:51, PR), senior Savannah Headley (66th, 23:31), and junior Rylea Summey (98th, 24:44). The top seven was rounded out with junior, Yarely Lopez-Chacon (145th, 26:17) and senior Laighnee Roll-Pike (150th, 26:25, PR).
Soreeya Hoeung (32:29) and Kylie Carlton (38:09) also set personal bests.
Sturgis girls finish second, boys sixth at St. Joseph Invite; boys and girls win Kickoff Classic
STURGIS — The Sturgis cross country teams opened their seasons at the St. Joseph Invitational on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
In the girls 11-12 grade division, the Trojans placed second, with Berkley Holtz running to a personal best time of 18.55.6, good for second place. The Sturgis boys finished sixth in the 11-12 grade division, led by Nolan Park, who ran a 17:58.9, placing 14th.
In the 9-10 grade division, the Trojan boys finished fourth, and were paced by Micaiah Arreola, who finished at 19:32.5, good for eighth place. In the 9-10 grade girl’s event, Sturgis placed fifth, led by Eleanor Park’s time of 22:46.5.
The inaugural cross country Kickoff Classic was hosted by Sturgis Saturday, and both the Trojan boys’ and girls’ teams came away with first place finishes. The boys posted 45 points, followed by Centreville (46), Bronson (55), and White Pigeon (78).
Benji Morales of Sturgis placed first overall with a time of 17:53. Rounding out the top five were Jesse Fielis of White Pigeon (18:11), Ethan Miller (18:45) and Will Hulin (18:47) of Centreville, and Micaiah Arreola of Sturgis, who finished at 19:08.
The Lady Trojans ended at 25 points, with Bronson finishing second at 39 points. Centreville (79) and White Pigeon (91) placed third and fourth, respectively. Sturgis’ Berkeley Holtz grabbed first place in the girl’s race with a time of 19:13. Following Holtz were Bronson’s Ava Hathaway (20:18) and Ashlynn Harris (21:03), and rounding out the top five was two Sturgis runners, Sydney Bir (21:13), and Tessa Hatt (22:04).
