MARION – James Custer defeated Roger Elkins in an Osceola County Board of Commissioners battle of two Evart Republican incumbents during the Tuesday primary.
Custer faces no opposition in the November election. He won over Elkins 270-222.
They faced each other in the same district for the first time because of redistricting.
Gretchen Whitmer didn’t have any opposition for the Democrat nod. Tudor Dixon got the most votes of Republican candidates in Osceola County with 1,465.
For the second district congressional representative, county voters gave the nod to John Moolenaar 3,199 to 1,240 over Thomas J. Norton. For the GOP nod for 34th district state senate, it was Roger Hauck winning over Lisa W. Sowers 2,974-1,110. Tom Kunse ran unopposed for the Republican 100th district state house nod.
Also on the GOP side, Alan A. Johnson and Jim Wanstead were the top two vote getters for the county road commission. In District 1, Gregory Gydesen won a three-person GOP race.
Incumbents David Turner in District 3 and Timothy Michell of District four, won their primaries for county commissioner.
Democrat voters in the county went with Jerry Hilliard for Congress, Christine Gerace for state senator and Nate Bailey for state house. They will run against their respective Republican opponents in the November election.
