Downtown Clare was “in the dark” Saturday night after a two-car crash around 9:45 pm caused a power outage that lasted about eight hours, according to Clare Police Chief Dave Saad. He said the traffic light was out of power even longer.
“Fortunately, no fatalities were reported and the occupants of both vehicles sustained only minor injuries,” the Chief said.
The July 29th incident involved a red 2015 Chevy pickup and a black 2013 Chevy Impala that collided at the intersection of McEwan and Fifth Street.. Names were not released but Saad said one driver was from Midland and the other was from Farwell.
The release from Chief Saad said, “Upon impact, the 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck veered off the roadway, striking two city light poles, one tree, and shearing an electrical pole. The force of the collision resulted in a power outage that affected the downtown area, including disabling the traffic lights at the intersection.”
The vehicles sustained significant damage but the occupants only had minor injuries. “Emergency Services responded promptly, providing necessary medical attention and securing the scene,” Saad said.
Everyone involved was treated at the scene, but Saad said he believes two were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
He added, “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Clare County Sheriff Department, Michigan State Police, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Public Works, Mobile Medical Response, and the Clare Fire Department for their swift and professional assistance with this accident. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.”
No other details explaining the collision were available and names were not released. “The crash is still under investigation,” Chief Saad said.
