Driver hits house and garage following two vehicle accident

By Paul Garrod

Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that on Sept. 1, at 11:46 a.m., a Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a two-vehicle traffic accident with no injuries, however, one of the vehicles had crashed into a garage and house.
Through an investigation, it was determined that the driver of the Silverado pickup had pulled out into oncoming traffic, failing to yield the right of way, causing both vehicles to swerve to avoid collision. Sheriff Abbott said it was found that the Silverado was traveling westbound on County Road 364 approaching the stop sign on County Road 657. The driver advised he stopped and then proceeded to cross County Road 657, failing to yield to the Lincoln car traveling northbound. Sheriff Abbott said both vehicles swerved to avoid colliding with one another. The Silverado ran off the roadway striking an electrical pole, while the Lincoln ran off the road through a yard in the 28000 block of 58th Avenue striking the home and garage on the property.
No injuries were reported; however, heavy damage was done to the buildings on the property.
This case remains open as charges may be sought on the driver of the Silverado.
