Explosion, fire destroy three buildings in Geneva Township

Fire destroyed three buildings on a property on County Road 687 near 63rd Street, Geneva Township of Van Buren County, early Wednesday morning, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES).
SHAES responded at 6:05 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing a huge explosion with fire at the property. A barn, greenhouse and a third storage building were all ablaze when firefighters arrived. Radiant heat from the fire was threatening the nearby residence, but was quickly controlled. Dogs and chickens in other buildings were not injured.
SHAES was assisted at the scene by the Bangor Community and Columbia Township fire departments.
Water needed to be shuttled by tankers from a draft site at the Gingerman raceway approximately a mile away.
An excavator was brought to the fire scene to assist in extinguishing the remaining rubble.
No injuries were reported.
The case remains under investigation.
