FARWELL – Brent Ellul is set for be a key senior for Farwell’s football team this season.
It’s his second year of varsity football. He’s a quarterback and strong safety.
Ellul played quarterback last year.
“It was good,” he said. “We really didn’t have the best team all-around but this year we have kids coming up and working.”
Ellul indicated he does different things at quarterback.
“I’m kind of an all-around guy,” he said. “We just do what we have to do, pass or run .”
As as passer, Ellul takes pride in seeing the open man and making a good throw. As a ball carrier, he likes to use his quickness.
As a strong safety, “I’m a pretty good ball hawk,” he said. “The quarterback thinks his guy’s open but he’s not.”
Ellul has had some defensive interceptions in the past.
Ellul and his teammates were active during the summer with various camps.
The season opens at Hesperia on Thursday.
“It’s looking pretty good,” Ellul said. “We have a lot of guys who want to work and are showing up at practice.
Ellul also plays baseball but admits he really likes football.
“But I’m better at baseball,” he said.
Farwell plays at Harbor Springs on Sept. 6 and is home on Sept. 13 with Beaverton.
