FARWELL — Farwell’s softball team was scheduled to play on Thursday (April 10) in Vestaburg and Friday (April 11) at home against Houghton Lake.
It all depends, of course, on the weather.
“I know that both teams have started off strong,” Farwell coach Alan Esterline said. “Vestaburg won both games against Lakeview last week and Houghton Lake won both games against Harrison last week. They both seem to be playing well and we will need to be focused at the end of the week for the two double headers.
“Due to the weather we have had limited time outside which scares me. Fielding ground balls in the gym is not the same as outside in the dirt. Hopefully the girls will be ready to go. The weather has not allowed us much time outside so practicing defense has been hard.
“I have a great group of young ladies that understand the importance of being ready each and every game. Hopefully mother nature will bring us some good weather and we can get into a normal routine.”
Farwell played one game on Tuesday April 1 against Merrill at home and won 13-5.
Lindsay Esterline pitched seven innings, had 18 strikeouts, six walks, and gave up five hits, and one earned run.
Anna VanBuskirk was 3 for 3 with a walk and three RBIs. Macie Carrow was 3 for 4 with with two doubles and one RBI. Ava Darnell was 1 for 2 with two RBIs Lindsay Esterline was 2 for 4 with two RBIs
Jacey Stover was 1 for 3 with a walk and her hit was a double
Evalynne Bell was 1 for 3 with a walk and one RBI. Allena Wunderlich was 1 for 4 with a walk/
“Tuesday was extremely cold and I was happy with our focus,” coach Esterline said. “The girls played hard and hit the ball well. We got some great pitching out of Lindsay Esterline which helped. We will continue to work in practice to clean up a few little things.”
