The Fennville Board of Education and Dr. Doug Greer have mutually agreed that a different approach is needed to align with the district’s evolving priorities. The Board would like to make clear that this decision is not related to any professional misconduct or impropriety. It is simply a mutual agreement made in the best interests of the district at this time.
Dr. Greer’s willingness to support the transition process is a testament to his dedication to Fennville Public Schools. He has expressed a strong desire to assist in ensuring a smooth leadership change and to provide any consultation necessary to the district during this period of transition. The Board is actively working to determine the next steps for leadership and will provide updates as plans are finalized.
Dr. Doug Greer began his term as Superintendent of Fennville Public Schools in July of 2023.
Under Dr. Greer’s leadership, the district advanced key strategic priorities, including the development of measurable goals, the successful negotiation of three union contracts using Interest-Based Bargaining, and a careful stewardship of district finances that resulted in an increased fund balance. His efforts have left the district in a strong position to continue moving forward according to a school district press release.
The Board has named long-time Fennville teacher and principal, Mr. Albert Lombard, as interim Superintendent. Mr. Lombard’s responsibility will be to hold the district steady while building trusting relationships; all while guiding the day-to-day operations of the district.
Mr. Lombard has spent his entire career at Fennville Public Schools. After teaching math at Fennville Middle School for 7 years, he spent the next 10 years as the principal at Fennville Elementary School. Under his shared leadership, Fennville Elementary school achieved top 10 math & English growth for English Language Learners out of 1,500 elementary schools in the state of Michigan and was recognized several times by U.S. News & World Report honors.
For the past 2.5 years, Mr. Lombard has served as Fennville High School principal. FHS was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Bronze High School. Mr. Lombard will still remain active in the day-to-day operations of Fennville High School.
“I am honored and prepared to step into this role for a school district where I have spent my entire career. The students, the staff, and the people of this community mean so much to me and are an important part of my life. I want to continue to see their successes and am committed to empowering those successes at Fennville Public Schools.”
Mr. Lombard has a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Alma College.
