While rain and mist popped up now and then they were not bad enough to wash out any of last weekend’s events. No doubt umbrellas and rain gear were at the ready just in case old mother nature let loose of a downpour. or two.
Farwell officially kicked off the regions fair and festival season with their Second Annual Farwell Memorial Day weekend Festival
After years of not having a carnival or much of anything beyond the ever-popular Demo Derby on the Farwell Labor Day fairgrounds, the historic old facility was suddenly awakened from its long slumber in 2023. The carnival, demolition derby’s, craft show, flea market and much more were back. Questions – would it last beyond the first year were quickly squashed. Despite some overcast skies and a few showers the 2024 event was another great success thanks to countless merchants, and hard working volunteers who pulled it all together making it bigger and better.
In Harrison the ever-popular car and bike show now on Saturday was once again packed with people, unique vehicles from around the area and beyond. Thanks to the great weather, vehicle lovers began arriving at sunrise to show off their beauties. and enjoy the many activities. The community also had a gun and knife show at the Clare County Fairgrounds .
Amid all the excitement to get away many folks often overlook the fact Memorial Weekend and Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave life and limb for freedoms so often taken for granted. On Monday several area residents and visitors to Clare County joined folks around the nation attending services at local cemeteries, monuments, memorials and veteran parks to remember all those fallen men and women.
