Firefighters control fire that threatened two businesses

Firefighters quickly controlled a fire that threatened two businesses on the city’s north side on Saturday night.
South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) responded to a report of smoke in the North Side Memories convenience store, 112 Dyckman Ave., at 8:30 p.m.
An employee reported smoke coming from a rear storage room as she prepared to close for the evening. Firefighters arrived to find the business filled with smoke. The fire was discovered in the rear room and quickly controlled before it could spread to the nearby Outpost Sports business, 114 Dyckman Ave., and an upstairs apartment that was unoccupied.
A second-alarm was sounded by Van Buren Dispatch, bringing Bangor Community and Covert Township fire departments to the scene.
North Side Memories had just re-opened on Friday after being closed during the winter months for a remodel. Employees were busy late Saturday attempting to recover from the fire so the business could re-open soon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
