GOBLES — On April 23 the Gobblers Tigers boys track team traveled to Fennville to compete against Coloma and Fennville in this week’s double dual.
The Tigers came away with some outstanding performances and 2 more team wins beating both Coloma and Fennville to improve to 4-0 in their dual meet record.
Meet awards went to the following. PR went to Noah Philley (17’ 5) and Conner Morris (17’3) in the Long Jump, Mason Mansfield received the meet MVP for winning Pole Vault, 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.
Steven Juarez received the Diamond Award for throwing the Shot for the first time along with other sprint events. He placed 3rd in the Shot Put. The Tough as Nails award went to Coal Otis.
On Friday, April 25, the Tigers traveled to Loy Norrix to compete in the Don Lukens Invitational.
The boys finished 6th out of the 11 teams in attendance. This was their 1st Early Qualifier meet opportunity and it didn’t disappoint.
Mason Mansfield qualified for the state finals with an early qualifier time of 11.3 to go along with a 3rd place finish, The 4x200m (8th place) and 4x100m (5th place) relay teams are not far off of early qualifying times either and as Gobles goes into the championship weeks of Track and Field the sprint relay teams of Nathan Ray, Max Sager, Steven Juarez, and Mason Mansfield will have opportunities to hit qualifying times.
In the shot put senior, Jackson Geiger threw 44-7 and placed fourth.
“One of the outstanding performances of the day was Hunter Piper in the 3200m run,” coach Marc Kline said. “He placed eighth and battled a Mattawan athlete for the final six laps. Hunter set a PR with a 11:15.61 and showed grit and determination.
“For team awards Hunter received the PR award, Tough as Nails went to Cole Cannon and Cole Ringel, the Diamond Award went to Gabe Quinteros, and the MVP the Sprint Relays (Nathan Ray, Max Sager, Steven Juarez, and Mason Mansfield).”
