Gobles man dies from injuries in M-51 crash

PAW PAW – A Gobles man died Friday Sept. 23, from injuries he received in a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday, Sept. 21, on M-51 in Paw Paw Township near Eagle Lake, according to reports from the Michigan State Police Paw Paw post.
Kevin Tackett, 50, died in the hospital from his injuries, according to MSP.
MSP said the crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on M-51 and Eagle Lake Road, Paw Paw Township. A preliminary investigation reported that the driver of a pickup was traveling northbound on M-51 near Eagle Lake Road when they sideswiped a semi-tractor trailer traveling southbound. The pickup then crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a box truck, driven by Tackett, also traveling southbound. The driver of the pick-up, a 26-year-old Arkansas man, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi, a 61-year-old Hudsonville, MI, man, was not injured.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor.
Seatbelts are believed to have been used by all occupants.
MSP was assisted at the scene by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
M-51 at Eagle Lake Road was shut down for almost six hours for investigation and clean-up.
The crash remains open pending further investigation.
