GOBLES — The Gobles Tigers delivered another impressive performance Friday night, overwhelming Wyoming Lee 71-6 in a non-conference matchup “that showcased their physicality and relentless run game,” coach Greg Eichler said.
Gobles’ offense piled up 613 total yards, including 429 rushing yards, while holding Wyoming-Lee to just 144 yards of offense and only 4 rushing yards.
“The Tigers scored touchdowns on nearly every possession, using explosive runs and a stifling defense to put the game away early,” Eichler said.
Senior Steven Juarez led the offensive onslaught, tallying 96 rushing yards on just three carries — including a 60-plus yard touchdown burst — and completing two passes for 35 yards. He also contributed on defense with an interception and two pass breakups.
Running back Nathan Ray found the end zone twice, averaging over 22 yards per carry and adding a 2-point conversion. Fellow backs Coal Otis (95 yards, 1 TD) and Danny Timms (44 yards, 1 TD) joined the scoring parade, while Devin Doorlag broke free for a 43-yard touchdown of his own.
“In all, eight different Tigers scored touchdowns, emphasizing Gobles’ balanced and unselfish attack,” Eichler said. “Through the air, Gobles was efficient when needed — completing 3 of 6 passes for 61 yards. Aiden Beam was the leading receiver with 58 yards on two catches, including several chain-moving plays off play action.
“The defense was equally dominant, forcing four takeaways and limiting Wyoming-Lee to just 1-of-8 on third downs. Hunter Piper and Juarez both intercepted passes, with Piper’s return going for a touchdown. Ray and Zach Conner each recovered fumbles, while Conner added a sack and a forced fumble as part of a disruptive night in the trenches. Defensive lineman Thomas Burrell contributed 1.5 sacks and multiple tackles for loss, helping the Tigers hold Lee’s rushing attack to negative yardage until late in the fourth quarter.”
Gobles improves to 6-2, “continuing their strong season and looking to finish strong before they begin an anticipated playoff run.
“The Tigers will look to carry their momentum into next week’s matchup against Twin City as postseason play draws near,” Eichler said.
