PAW PAW – Van Buren County Commissioner Richard Godfrey was honored by his fellow commissioners, Tuesday Dec. 10, for his lifelong commitment to education, community service, and leadership.
Godfrey, who did not seek reelection to another term as a county commissioner, received a framed proclamation for his 14 years as a county commissioner, including 10 as the board chair.
Godfrey is a retired faculty member and statistics professor at Grand Rapids Community College, where he served as a past president of the Faculty Association, and contributed signifi-cantly to the academic community.
He has also served on numerous boards and committees across the state.
In addition to his public service, Godfrey was recently recognized for his work with South-west Michigan Behavioral Health, his leadership on the Bloomingdale Communications Board, and his founding role in the West Michigan Regional Veterans Treatment Court.
The proclamation concluded: “We the Van Buren County Board of Commissioners recog-nize and honor Richard Godfrey for his unwavering commitment, service, and contributions to the Van Buren County community.”
Godfrey graduated from Alma College and received an M.B.A. from Central Michigan Uni-versity, Mt. Pleasant.
