PAW PAW – American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. (AGSM) will host its third Military Suicide Awareness Walk-A-Thon, Sunday, May 18. Registration begins at noon with the walk at 1 p.m. The walk starts and ends in the Maple City Veterans Memorial Park, 510 E. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw.
“This is a family friendly event. Come show your support and help bring awareness to military suicide,” said Laura De Roo, president, American Gold Star Mothers, Western Michigan Chapter.De Roo said it is not too late to donate new items for the group’s Silent Auction. Donations can be dropped off at the Maple City Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday, May 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monetary donations may be made payable to “AGSM – Western Michigan Chapter” and mailed to: AGSM – Western Michigan Chapter, 23582 Laurel Glen Ave., Mattawan, MI, 49071. Donations are tax deductible. The group’s EIN number is 92-1067877.AGSM – Western Michigan Chapter is a group of local area moms whose children have died while on active duty in the nation’s Armed Forces. AGSM also has associate members, members of the fallen hero’s immediate family, who support the AGSM mission. AGSM is a non-profit 501(c)3 service organization. The Western Michigan Chapter was chartered by the national board in May 2011. The organization’s motto, which the group lives out is: “Finding strength in the fellowship of other Gold Star Mothers who strive to keep the memory of our sons and daughters alive by working to help veterans, those currently serving in the military, their families and our communities.”
